He could be no more than six or seven but the grime encrusting his hands and face made it impossible to be sure. I wondered where he came from, how he got here. There were very few dwellings in this part of the world, only soldiers like me, fighting a failing war against men who seemed immune to the fear of death. Between pinched finger and thumb he held what appeared to be a fuse. It was eerily similar to what was used in a grenade. "Where are you from, little boy?" I asked. The boy smiled at me with brilliant-white teeth, but offered no answer to my query. I tried again, "Are you lost?"This time, he shook his head. An answer, but one that got me nowhere. "Are you with someone?" A nod. I didn't have time for this. I was supposed to be meeting my platoon over the hill from where they boy seemed to materialize from. "I am going to be a great warrior," he said quietly."Pardon?""I'm a prodigy they said."The boy was making no sense. I pushed past him and began my ascent up the hill. "I killed them, you know. All of them."I spun around, but he was gone. I scanned the area. There was no place to hide, but he was gone, like magic, or a phantom. I turned back around and began to sprint up the hill. As I crested the peak, I saw the truth of the words he spoke. My stomach dropped at the devastation, the blood, the utter brutality. Demons. Barbarians. These enemies were utterly demented if they would send a child to do mans work. Suddenly this war was not about keeping my nation safe. This war was about revenge...★ ☆ ✰Revenge shall be Yours ★ ☆ ✰The battlefield is rife with enemies, each one more powerful than the last. You are tasked with killing each and everyone, from the mob of enemies swarming you with their sheer numbers to the snipers who rain down their bullets from above. After annihilating this threat, it is time to move on to the next challenge. In this village the threat to your person has increased, and just when you think you can handle the heat, your supply of health and ammo starts to run low. The size of the level and the endless number of enemies continues, but now you must get physical. Reserve your shots and don't let them see you coming. Stealth is your best option. Make the most of discovered hiding spots. The next and final leg of your journey will see you at the city ruins where the most dangerous of these villains reside. This is just where you want to be.
